If your iPod is locked with forgotten or forgot password, you must find the password or clear the password before you can use it again. So at first, I need to know what the password is.

1. If the screen lock password is lost, you may need to reset your iPod to factory settings to clear the password. Be aware that iPod factory reset will clear the settings and personal information as well as the lock password.  So remember to backup iPod before factory reset.

2.  If the iTunes backup password is lost, you can't restore iPhone from backup anymore. So you need to find the password to unlock the encrypted backup.

If you can’t remember your passcode, you'll need to erase your device, which deletes all of your data and settings, including the passcode to open the iPod. Unless you made a backup before you forgot your passcode, there isn't a way to save the data on your device. To protect your data, backup your iPod at least once a month.

Step 1 In iPod touch (7th generation), press and hold the Side (or Top) button until the power off slider appears. Drag the slider to turn off your device. Connect your device to your computer while holding the Volume down button. Keep holding the Volume down button until you see the "recovery mode screen".

Step 2 Find your iPod on your computer.

When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Restore. Finder or iTunes will download software for your device.

If it takes more than 15 minutes, your device will exit recovery mode and you'll need to repeat the process all over again.
