In short, you are not able to access another person's private messages on Facebook. The whole reason behind the ability to send private messages to another person's inbox on Facebook is one of privacy. If you comment on others' walls, photographs, statuses or other such online activity, your comment can then be seen by all of that person's Facebook friends, and potentially by all of your friends. As a result, inbox messages cannot be seen by others in order to keep them private, allowing for one to one communication between two people, which is hidden from the rest of Facebook.
Of course, if you mean that you want to see messages that someone has sent to you, then that is another matter entirely. In order to access a private message on Facebook, you should log in to your account and then look at the blue "Facebook" bar at the top of the screen. In the left hand corner of this blue bar, there should be three icons. The middle icon looks like two speech bubbles, one in front of the other.
If you click on this icon, then a drop down list of your most recent private messages will appear. You can then click on the message which you wish to view in full, in order to read in and reply to it. If you wish to access an older private message, you should click on the message icon in the same way. However, at the bottom of the drop down list, there should be a bar which says "view all messages". If you click on this link, you will be taken to a list of all the private messages in your inbox, and details about the messages such as who they were sent from and when they were sent.
