There are a number of applications on Facebook that claim to be able to tell the user who was watching their profile, however these are usually scams as some require the user to fill in forms or surveys to be able to use them and then fail to work afterwards, while others get the user to give the application varying degrees of permissions and then steal personal information or advertise using the person's profile. Although some people claim to have used them successfully, this is likely to be untrue as Facebook's privacy policy will not allow any applications to violate the user's preferences and therefore the application will not be able to retrieve the necessary data to find out who went on the user's profile. Facebook states that: "Facebook currently does not provide an application that allows users to track profile views or statistics on the views of any specific user content. Third party developers, however, may offer applications that provide some of this functionality. Please keep a few things in mind for these applications". For third party applications to work the users have to agree for the application to be able to track their profile, which most people will be unwilling to do. The applications try to get around this problem by using the likes and posts on the user's wall and compile a list from that information, which is identical to what applications that generate a list of 'best friends', however this is obviously not accurate as it only shows the people who post and not the people who 'watch' their profile. Another way that some of these applications work is by randomly generating a list of friends who may or may not have been on the user's profile, proving themselves completely useless. For this reason no third party application should be able to show who has been on the user's profile and only an application made by Facebook developers should be used for this purpose, however at this moment in time it seems unlikely that Facebook will make said program.
