Ourworld.com rules its fun. But usually there are teens on and say some bad words so mark that out. Dizzywood is great before but now they just allow members I would prefer the $5.99 {1 month] if you consider that game. Clubpenguin will be a check for me but you need to be pretty much a member to buy clothes, play cool games and stuff like that. [I would also prefer the $5.99 which is also 1 month.] Farmville is a good game but you pro-bally need to have a facebook so yeah its good.  Well thats all I know. :]
Enjoy!

Habbo.com is fairly well monitored and Sulake, its creator, has a long-term investment in virtual social spaces. No games really, just socialising.

Dofus.com is also a fun little game with a fairly good moderation team in place. This is a social game, more than just a place to socialise.

Both are free, both run on Flash.
