A Snort is an open source network intrusion and detection system.  It has the benefits of signature, protocol, and anomaly-based inspection and is therefore the most widely used IDS/IPS technology.  Snort report that they have over 300,000 registered users and claim to be the standard for IPS.
Susan will need to configure a large partition to store the alert data recorded by the snort.
