There are a number of things you can try to put sound back on your computer. You may not have deleted it, you may be able to change the settings and get it back, or you may have to download something from the internet.

Check you have not muted the sound. There will be a mute button on your keyboard and also an icon on the right hand side of the tool bar at the bottom of your screen.

If you are using external speakers, make sure they are turned on and check that they are connected correctly. They should be plugged into the line out jack which is usually a green color.

Check the sound settings on your computer by going to ‘start’, ‘control panel’, ‘hardware and sound’, then select ‘sound’ and check the system volume settings.

Type ‘playing audio’ into the search box in the start menu to bring up the playing audio troubleshooter. This will check for common problems with your volume settings, sound card or driver and speakers or headphones.

If you do all this but still can’t hear sound then you should check your sound card; whether you actually have one and whether it is working properly.

Go to ‘control panel’, ‘hardware and sound’, ‘devices and printers’ and then select the ‘device manager’.

Then click on ‘sound, video and game controllers’. There should be a sound card listed. If no sound card is listed, check the information that came with your computer to see if there's supposed to be a sound card installed. If there should be a sound card installed, you'll need to install one.

If you have a laptop you will probably have an integrated sound processor instead of a sound card, but this will still be listed in the same category in ‘device manager’.

If there is a yellow question mark next to the sound card name then this likely means there is a problem. Check the properties of the sound card by right clicking on its name and look under the ‘device status’ to identify the problem.

If the problem is with your sound card then you may need a new driver for your sound card. You can do this either by using windows update, using the disc that came with your computer or download the driver yourself from the internet.

If you feel you have deleted the sound from your computer, then the most likely solution to put sound back on your computer is to get a new driver for your sound card. If you find you need to download one from the internet then check the Windows Compatibility Centre for thousands of devices and links to driver downloads. www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/defa

You need the driver of soundmax to make it work again. If you have the CD then you can reinstall the driver from it. If you don't have the CD then you can download the driver from the internet. Visit the following link to download the driver.

I'm not a techie, but I've found that when I delete something, I just go in to my recycle bin and restore it. You can also go to the soundmax site and d/l the drivers.

Click Start>Control Panel and select Add hardware. The system will locate it (the driver) if it still exists on the machine.

OR click Start>Control Panel and select Add Hardware to have the system locate the hardware if need be and see if it can locate the driver this way.

You could, instead, use "System restore" to go back to a day/date where the hard ware worked.
