A spider is an easy one; it is literally just a backslash and forward slash for the legs, brackets for the body and zeros for the eyes.

To create these text animals it's just a case of playing around with all of the different symbols available on your phone.

Different phones have different text message layouts so although you can copy and paste them off certain websites, you will still have to edit them to work correctly on your phone and it is not guaranteed to show up right when you text it.

If you have an iPhone or similar, there are a number of apps which can be downloaded that generate such animal pictures which can be used directly in your text messages, as well as via email and on Facebook.

An example of such an app is Artext which costs 59p. This type of art is known as ASCII art and it basically involves making pictures out of the symbols, letters and numbers used on computers and phones. People are taking this further now making an art form out of such symbols; creating impressive and intricate pictures of people, places, animals and much more.

You can download free ASCII online using ACSII generators; basically a picture is entered onto the system and the website will produce the picture but made out of symbols (www.glassgiant.com/ascii/). My advice is just keep trying, the best ones are the ones that other people haven't seen before so try and make them up yourself. Once you get the hand of what shapes certain symbols make when put together, you can quickly become an expert.
