For college and academia, Windows 7 Home Premium should be able to provide you with all the features that you need. The package is cheaper than other options and features all the basics that you need. You can install Microsoft Office, you have all the features you need to work on the computer, you can connect to the internet and there are even features on there that you can use when you're not working, but simply relaxing.

  • Customization
Windows 7 Home Premium is the cheapest version of Windows 7 but you can still do things like customize your desktop. You can have whatever you want as your wallpaper, and you can even change the way menus are displayed on your computer. It's completely customizable and completely down to you, allowing you to be your own person even when you're doing your college work. Home Premium can even give you a live preview of every tab that pops up if you hover your mouse over the task bar.

  • Multimedia
Windows Media Player 12 is a key part of Windows 7 Home Premium. As well as being able to integrate all of your media needs, you will be able to activate a stream option within Windows Media Player. This allows you to share all of your media with the other machines that you have chosen to be within your HomeGroup. For instance, if you have a laptop and a desktop computer, you will be able to connect to and use media from one computer even if you're working on the other. There are so many options even on this basic version of Windows 7, meaning that this option is absolutely perfect.

I would prefer Windows 7 Ultimate, it gives you everything Home Premium and Professional offers - plus added security features and the flexibility to work in multiple languages.
Help protect your data on your PC and portable storage devices against loss or theft with BitLocker. Work in the language of your choice or switch between any of 35 languages. Also use an updated Antivirus and PCfresher tools to optimize to its best performance and fix windows errors.
