The first thing you need to do is to check that you have a component or composite AV cable, because without this you will not be able to connect your iPod to your TV. To determine which cable you will need you should take into account that component cables are usually compatible with big screen and flat screen TVs whereas composite cables are better suited for older or smaller TVs. If you do not already own one of these cables you can purchase an Apple AV connection from Apple stores or electronic stores.
Once you have the correct cable you need to connect the cable to the iPod via the 30-pin connector located on the bottom of the music device. Once you have done that you will have to get the other end of the AV cable and connect it to your TV. You need to understand that the cables and jacks are colour coordinated, therefore you need to match the colour on each cable output with the corresponding jack. If you need to connect to a separate stereo or receiver then you should connect the red and white outputs to the stereo system and the remaining connections to the video section on the TV.
When everything is connected turn the TV on and set it to video-in, however if you have an older TV you should set the channel to number three or four depending on your settings, as they won’t have the built in video-in option. After all that is done, turn on your iPod and choose what you would like to watch whether it be a movie, video or photo slideshow and it should appear on your TV.
