The movie 'The Social Network', based on Ben Mezrich's non-fiction book 'The Accidental Billionaires', accurately portrayed the founding and fumbling of Facebook, whose initial name was FaceMash, a hot-or-not site which mushroomed into a portal for photos, comments and online social networking. Jesse Eisenberg plays the nerdy and insensitive loner Mark Zuckerberg, who enlisted the help of his only Harvard friend Eduardo Severin, played brilliantly by British actor Andrew Garfield (who is the next Spiderman), to help him as the Chief Business Officer for his new web venture TheFacebook.com. With involvement from the Winklevoss twins, whose financial power lured Zuckerberg into an eventual lawsuit claiming Zuckerberg stole the idea for a yearbook-style online network, and advice from start-up guru Shawn Parker (who, in the film, advised Zuckerberg to "drop the 'the'"), Facebook became the pre-eminent Silicon Valley company. The film, directed by David Fincher and with a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin, was a critical and commercial success, tapping into the zeitgeist and adding a nourish twist. Severin claimed he had been swindled out of most of his profits resulting from being a founding partner, and the film shows Garfield sobbing at the unfairness of business. Zuckerberg, the world's youngest billionaire, comes across as a ruthless misanthrope, while the Winklevoss twins are as determined in their pursuit of what they believe is a miscarriage of justice and disobedience of the Harvard code of conduct as they are in the rowing crew. They rowed in the Olympic Games for the United States; Zuckerberg is reinventing himself as a philanthropist.
