Game consoles are very fun and enjoyable to play. There are lots of games out on the market for nearly everybody to enjoy. Various types of video games are sports, action, adventure etc. You can play with friends or play online with thousands of others. Also, some games can be educational and when playing games, you can play again if you lose. In addition, it is quick and easy to load up the games. However, sometimes children play too many video games. This is time consuming and can have an affect on their social and academic life. Also, it can be expensive to buy the consoles and also the actual games. Furthermore, some games can be aggressive and violent which can have an effect on someone’s behaviour. There are a lot of games that are for 18 year olds however, children may still play them. This can seriously effect the way the child behaves and speaks.

Well many people will tell you there are more disadvantages than advantages, but actually, the habit of playing online games has many advantages. Recent research has shown that playing puzzle and word games decreases the risk of Alzheimer disease while watching daytime television increases the risk. Many other researches have proved the positive effect of playing online games on the youngsters' mind. Word, puzzle and trivia games enriches the children's speech; classic computer games such as Tetris benefits the kids' ability to focus, analyze shapes, think and plan ahead; board games like backgammon and chess can help in the area of thinking skill and so on.Compared to watching TV, which is completely passive as you are required to do nothing but stare, overhear and open bags of chips, playing computer games, still not an Olympic sport, require you more often to recall that grey substance inside your head.Additionally, playing online games is less solitary act than most people think. First, many types of games, including shooting games, sports games, backgammon, bingo, billiard and chess, are two or multi player games in which players can compete against each other. Additionally, most gaming sites add several features that encourage interaction between gamers including forums, chats, multiplayer games and tournaments, etc. There are also higher winnings in online games and many sites for example allow you to play free bingo with no deposit. The bottom line is that online gaming, if taken in a reasonable dosage, is the opposite of harmful.
Certainly, it depends on the system you are using (Nintendo and Sony are free, but Microsoft costs money; there are PC games that allow free online play and others that one must pay for). However, there are general disadvantages that apply to any system. I will attempt to cover a few of these.
In online play, there are always players that play a given game many more hours than you do (tweens and teens are the most likely to be in this group) and, thus, are able to defeat you much quicker than you might expect. If you are looking for a challenge, this can be a good thing. If you are looking to have a chance to win once in a while, this is a major disadvantage.
Also, "hitches" in the game may occur due to the number of participants on any given server. Online play can sometimes bog down and, as a result, cause your game to totally break down. You could be just about to win when, uh oh! The screen freezes and your game is cut short.
As mentioned by another blurter, there are those online who like to use foul language. Many games allow some sort of contact between participants. This can be through an audio system or in a chat format (akin to Instant Messenger). Every time I've played online, someone uses constant offensive language. This can, if you are offended by profanity, take the enjoyment out of your online experience. (If you are planning on allowing children to play online and players are able to communicate with each other, this is something to consider thoughtfully. The ratings board for video games warns that online content in such games is NOT rated. This is due to the fact that online communication always possesses a vulgar aspect.)
These are the three major disadvantages to online play. There are more, but these should help answer your question.
The biggest pro would be seeing how you stack up comparing with other players, especially if you're into the whole halo or any other shooter thing. Plus, it has proven to be more fun as you get a bigger adrenaline rush with other players as you do by yourself. If you have a headset or anything like that, you can team up with your friends and pwn everyone else before they see it coming! The cons would be, for the most part, people being idiots online. There are tons of morons online with stupid names, often vulgar, who like to shoot their mouths off more than their actual guns. If you get in a car/vehicle with an idiot, he can really mess you over, as if he crashes the car and ditches you with it, you can die and he'll live on! Also, your teammates can accidentally or purposefully run you over in a warthog, while you are trying to save their hide!Besides the idiots, there can be server problems, as no one might be on, or there might not be any servers with any more space for you, and then there's the slowdown issue, that comes and goes.
The key advantage of online games is that they permit interaction with other human beings who also play the game. This potentially makes the games themselves more interesting because computer AI is not able to match the sophistication, subtlety and unpredictability of a human brain, but also encourages or facilitates the development of social skills. One of the traditional criticisms of computer games has been that they lead to social isolation with players spending time in front of a screen instead of interacting with others. Online games let them do both.
One main advantage of video games is that it helps people to relax. It also prevents children from causing a mess in the house as they don’t have to move around. However, this activity can be disadvantageous if the kids are wasting too much time on the game and are not studying.
Advantage: They are fun, I love Monopoly on line. Disadvantage: You usually just have a free trial then you have to purchase the game. Some only have 1 hour for you to play. I hate that.
The advantages are that if you already have a computer and access to the internet, then you are free to access numerous amounts of games online, that you wouldn't necessarily be able to afford to go and buy. You also get to play with other players but from the comfort of your own home.
It's nice to play online games. We can find some friends and our mind will be more active. But some people become addicted in playing online games and so their not interested in school activities. Marco Remandaban
There are several disadvantages to online gaming. One is that, obviously, it can only be played where an online connection is available. It means you cannot play some games you might like to play while out and about with your laptop, for example. An extension of this is that gaming might be disrupted by Internet connection problems which nearly all users experience sometime.
A second disadvantage is that most online games require subscription, meaning a continuing flow of regular payments must be made as well as the initial purchase cost.
Third, players are usually dependent on a third party, usually the company which created the game, to provide servers which manage the gameplay. If the company goes out of business or experiences technical difficulties, or decides it is no longer economical to run a certain game, would-be players are left in the lurch. This has indeed happened with some fans of online MMORPGs when the company involved decided not to continue running the servers any more.
Most are simple arcade-style games OR if they have any detail at all, they sometimes charge a fee. Their graphics can be considerably worse so that the number of participants can be maximized.
Other than that, online games can be great. Try Kingdom of Loathing for a great stick-man RPG that will make you laugh your tail off.
