In order to reset an iPod you will have to follow the next few steps. For an iPod photo, mini or video and the one with click wheel, toggle and hold the switch on then off. Very quickly, then press the menu button and selection button at the same time. Hold them for 6 seconds till the time the screen resets.

For all other iPods press the play or pause button and the select button at the same time. Hold it for 6 seconds until the screen resets automatically. You usually need to reset your iPod when your player hangs up or is working slow. This option of reset should be avoided and you shouldn't do it very often as you have a chance of erasing all your memory while doing it. Just reset it when it is required.

When you plug your ipod in and it brings up itunes, the first thing you'll see is an image of your ipod and it'll show its status. Go to the top of the page where it shows the different categories like music, photos, notes and click settings and inside there you can click the link to reset your ipod. If you reset your ipod, it will erase all your itunes music too tho.
