The laptop computer was created by Adam Osbourne in 1981, Osbourne ran a company called Osbourne Computers, which sold books to larger publishers. The computer was given the surprising name of Osbourne 1. It had a very tiny screen. It cost about $1800 at the time.
In 1989, NEC produced the first 'laptop' computer that actually could be placed on your lap, it weighed less than 5lbs. The first consumer laptop came in three years earlier in 1986 but it wasn't the type of thing you could actually sit on your lap very easily.
Recently in 2005 a wind up version of the laptop computer was produced for use in the third world. It doesn't have a fast processor, it doesn't have huge amounts of memory but does only cost $100 and runs like clockwork, well.. on clockwork.
These days laptops are cheap (if you don't want much), quick, with big memories and very fast processors and very light in weight.
