The "Waiting" message is something people often see when they're trying to update or download the Instagram app, and the connection cuts out or times out before the installation has begun.

It's a frustrating situation to be in, because sometimes you're not able to start the installation or update again... And some users have reported being unable to even delete the app icon which is stuck in its "waiting" state.

This has happened to me with other apps, and usually turning the device on and turning it off again solves the issue.

However, here are some other things to try out if your Instagram app is stuck saying "waiting":

  • Make sure you have enough free space on your device
  • Try tapping the icon while it's in "waiting" mode, to pause the download. Then go to the app store and select the "update" or "install" button from the Instagram app page.
  • Try backing up your phone and then factory reseting the device by plugging into iTunes and following that process,
