Programs such as Google Earth allow you to view a satellite image of your house for free at any time, but the images are up to three years old and not in real time. If you want to view live satellite of your house in real time then the only way to do this is to install an outdoor webcam.
Buy an webcam system, but make sure it is suitable for use outdoors.
Read the instructions and install the webcam yourself facing your house, or pay a professional to do it for you. Bear in mind that it will need to be near a power outlet.
Install the software that came with the webcam on your computer.
If you are worried about intruders and want to view the webcam whilst you are at work or away from home, then this is possible by making a note of the IP address of the webcam. You can then enter this into an internet browser’s address bar.
If you invest in a wireless webcam, then although they are more expensive, you will be able to place the webcam further away so you will have a wider view of your property. This could also make the camera less conspicuous but make sure you are still installing it on your own property and not someone else’s or public property as you may be prosecuted.
You mean you want to watch live satellite pictures? Alright...
Google Earth will get you Free Satellite Images, but not live. Other companies provide near-live satellite images, but not free. (Near-Live means you need to order the image, and then, in a few hours [sometimes days,] you can get them.)
If you want a better view, you can check out your local town / county government. They may do fly-overs for tax assessment purposes, and may take pictures of the property at the same time. Not "live," but not bad.
If remote monitoring is your goal, a simple web cam or two perched atop some high structure should fit the bill.
BTW: Cost for live satellite - Expensive! Custom, real time satellite imagery requires you to contact the satellite owner and make arrangements. Also, if you're in the USA, you may need to fill out an FBI clearance. Furthermore, there's no such thing as a geo-synchronize imagery satellite - If there were, the CIA would have use of it. And even still, the government sometimes loses "their man," so don't expect these services to be cheap (ie: Expect to spend a few million if you want live video, a few thousand if you just want a pic.)
I don't know how to do it, but my friend lives in Alexandria, Virginia. Her son in California can see her house live and also see the parking lot to see if she is home. My friend told me her son said he didn't pay anything for it, but has something to do with the camera on the computer and there was no charge either. She went to the beach and her son looked for her on the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland. I can't do it either, but I know that is true
Well, there is a program you can get for you CELL PHONE and it will give you a real time image ... I can see everything outside right now on my phone. However. It costs 30 cents an image....
I get free Satellite Uplinking on my computer, because I work for The Nasa Space Agency, and I work behalf for Google. I build models for Google Earth! But I tend to be a really good Tracker so I am asked to track people down for a free price. I do it because it is really fun to do! Good luck! You could be in the Military and be able to use the Fancy Satellite tech they have!
Several months ago there was a news article on MSN about Al Quaida and the Taliban jacking streaming video transmitted by the reaper/predator UAV from an unencrypted satellite signal. It requires a satellite dish and a satellite modem installed in your computer and software that costs about $22 US. The whole setup costs about $600 to $1000 US and is not stream satellite footage like we see in the movies but I imagine you could get some pretty interesting stuff.
I have never found one. I am too looking to find this supposedly "live" image site that I can use to see things moving as they are happening. Good Luck. Zuara
I've been on Google map and looked at my work place. The road... Houses nearby are there, but the company isn't. The "live" sat views are about 5 years old.
You cannot possible have a live video of your house. You would have to own a orbiting satellite with a billion dollar camera inside to transmit video to you. Only the government has those, and we will never have live transmitting aerial video
It is really true that we as a normal citizen never can see live / real time / or right now ....so I can say that wait for the right technology and time when we can get this stuff free and easily so till than GOOD LUCK. Kunwar
Have you tried using a hosted PBX for your web cam? Besides looking up your address on Google Earth, I don't think it's possible to spy on yourself. If you have high clearance in the armed services you may be to use satellites, though. I doubt they would approve of such a frivolous use, though.
You can't unless your in the government. (tazzbaby - what don't you understand about the terms "LIVE and REALTIME". Google does a good job, but, they are only providing maps taken weeks or months before....
Hey you can download google earth if you want to but with it you can't actually see your house in detail. I recommend going onto google and typing in live satellite feeds of the country your house is in and go from there.
