The main difference between a system analyst and a software engineer is that a system analyst is responsible for designing an information system and at the end of his analysis he has to specify the requirements for creating the system. The system analyst discusses all the requirements and other aspects with the management and other related personnel.  A software engineer is responsible for creating software from its problem definition phase to the debugging and implementation phase. And he is also responsible for monitoring and maintaining the performance of the software.
