"If you own laptop and desktop computers, you can connect both computers to the same mouse using a KVM switch. Using one mouse will allow you to avoid investing in a second mouse and using your laptop's uncomfortable built-in trackball mouse

Firstly you will need to buy a KVM sharing switch. Make sure that the KVM switch has enough ports to attach the mouse, laptop and desktop. Additionally, ensure that the connector ports are compatible with each device (PS/2 or USB). Connect the mouse to the sharing switch, you can now use the mouse on either your desktop or laptop."

Yes you can use a desktop mouse with your laptop. Buy a mouse with USB cable. Insert the cable to USB port and your operating system will automatically detect it.
