There are two possible forms of the Google Toolbar you mention. The first is THE toolbar; an optional extra for internet browsers. The toolbar has several functions for quick access of websites and quick searches via Google's search engine capabilities. There is also the option for adding favorites, spell-check and translation.

The second is simply the option for browsers to have a search engine bar next to the URL bar. With Internet Explorer this is Microsoft's own Bing engine, but for Firefox there is a multi-engine option, of which you can choose Google.

The problem is that Google's toolbar is always updating and upgrading alongside the improved internet browsers. This makes it hard to stick with the classic toolbar. The way to revert is quite straightforward though. The toolbar acts as its own installation. You can access the Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs and uninstall it from there. However, before you do you should find the initial file for the earlier version you preferred. If you do not have that file then it will be easily found online, just by - unsurprisingly - Googling it.

Then, simply, you install the old version and it will run in your browser. You must note that there are updates for a reason - enhanced performance and better integration are the result. An older version of the toolbar will lack certain features and may, after a while, become too outdated for the software it runs with.
