AIM is the abbreviated form of AOL Instant Messenger. It is a free online service. It enables people to communicate with each other in real time. It also offers the facility of checking out whether your friends are online and can chat with them to your heart content. It is very user friendly and can be operated without being very tech savvy. You would need a screen name to use AIM and a person can possess several screen names at the same time.
But it is not possible to delete these screen names once they are created. It is a permanent exercise. But it can be hidden from the other users from finding your unwanted screen names by following certain instructions. It is different in different systems. While using Windows your screen name can be hidden by selecting the 'AIM' menu and then clicking on 'My Options'. After that click on 'Edit Preferences' and when the window appears click the Controls tab and click "Nothing about me". This would hide your screen name from other users. If you are a Macintosh user then select the 'Edit' menu and click 'Preferences'. After that click the Controls tab and click 'Nothing about me'.
