This is so they can verify that the photos you put up are actually of you. I think it's a good idea because a whole lot of dating sites have fake images and fake people on there like some guys will get in touch and they have abs and muscles in their picture but in reality they don't look anything like that so the Facebook connection at least means people have that extra check.
And about privacy, it's not too bad because people on Tinder still can't see your Facebook profile itself, just common things you both like on Facebook or sometimes people you're both friends with on Facebook too.
