Tried all of them and now I'm using the Avast free edition at home and AVG free on work station, Avira should be good but personally I didn't like it.

I install AVG free on a lot of PCs and Laptops. It does a great job and is the easiest of them to use. The free edition is better rated than the paid version in Consumer Reports. I've tried the other two and they would constantly report items that they placed in the system, so you would buy the whole package. AVG free and Malwarebytes Anti-malware free is the best protection set up you can have and they don't cost a cent.

Avg and avast are good options, also, get Malwarebytes because the "full version" has a ransomware killer. Which is a good thing to have in this day and age.

I've tried many anti-virus software in my PC life and everytime I would get a virus that my anti-virus software couldn't handle I would switch to another company.  The last time I had to switch was 5 years ago and that was back to free AVG.  Maybe in the last 5 years the others companies have gotten better, I couldn't tell you and I won't even try to figure it out unless AVG fails me at some point.  You can download it from free.avg.com.  The current version comes with Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, E-mail Scanner, LinkScanner, Resident Shield and the Update Manager.
