No it is not possible to find the exact location to which an IP (internet protocol) address belongs I'm afraid. The technology to do this is possibly available and may be used in certain circumstances such as police enquiries; however for the general public this is not possible. If nothing else, being allowed to locate IP addresses to the exact home would be a breach of privacy. The accuracy is quite high but cannot guarantee 100% accuracy to an exact location. Some people hide their IP address so that they are not openly noticeable when they are online.

There are numerous websites that will locate IP addresses for you; these are generally quite accurate to around 25 kilometres. The details given when you search a particular IP address are hostname, internet service provider (ISP), proxy (if applicable), assignment, blacklist check, country, city, area code and postal/ zip code. There are a couple such websites including 'what is my IP address' (whatismyipaddress.com/ip-lookup) and 'self seo' (www.selfseo.com/find_ip_address_of_a_website.php). These websites will allow you to enter a given IP address and narrow down its location to around 25 km. This website can also tell you what the IP address is for your personal computer.

I disagree with the above answer. You can find the user's general location and sometimes even the company or person's name. There is software available to hide your ip address to prevent hackers using your computer. To find out who the ip address belongs to you can: Type in the ip address in Google search, or use one of the following ip address lookup sites: Www.hostip.info, www.arin.net/whois, www.ipgp.net.

You can't get the details of an ip, but if any domain is registered and web site is hosting under that ip then you may be able to find out the details. But if you want to know an individual persons ip such as ip from email header then unfortunately you can't. Unless you contact ISP which in most cases isp wont give the details of their internet subscribers to anyone but they would give to police department,.  But you can trace ISP geographical location using that ip number and workout who would have sent you email. There are some sites like www.tracemyip.org which you can access all these details.

I am sorry to say that you can't find the person. An IP address is dynamically assigned to a person when he connects to the Internet. It changes every time he connects again. So in such case, it is difficult to find the person.,

Yes it is possible just send a tracking email to the ip address you are trying to track and locate it will give you the exact phone number and address where the ip address is coming from

It DEFINITELY IS Possible. Apparently, somehow it is possible for someone else to use your IP address and look like they are you. I don't understand how it is possible, but it is, someone did it to me. If IP addresses changed all of the time, forums would not be able to block IP addresses and certain users. Maybe it USED to be that way, but it isn't anmore! Thank you FAYDRA!!!

Zuhail is correct... Most ISP' have a range set of ip addresses "for example.. 0.0.0.1 to 0.0.0.99" that get randomly assigned to their users everytime they connect to the net... The best you can hope for without a warrant signed by a judge is to find out who that persons ISP is... I am sure there are some small ISP' that haven't started doing it this way yet. But most do to protect the identity of their subscribers.
