It's both.....A good example for both in my experience.

I was in a car wreck on the freeway, I was glad I could call someone to come get me.
I hate driving by somebody on the phone when they don't pay attention to what they are doing.

PS: your question will be the "great debate" for many years to come. ;)

The world is getting connected as people are getting hooked to mobile phones. Gone are the days of making cumbersome ISD calls and being physically present at the phone outlet. The mobile phone has revolutionized the concept of calling and you can be reached by your contacts and vice versa whilst you are on the move, traveling anywhere in the world.

With the advent of mobile phones and international connectivity, the world is indeed shrinking. Beside the comfort and instant access they give us, mobile phones can be both cost-affective and essential for travelers who want to stay connected. In certain cases where mobile calls are cheaper than local calls made from hotels rooms, you can make use of them for economical reasons. Hotels can charge heavily for just making local calls. In contrast, mobile providers offer excellent plans that include liberal amount of airtime and offer very practical tariff for international rooming.

The mobile phone has become a single device for performing various functions, thus eliminating the need for carrying different gadgets. Now you can use your mobile as a music system or digital camera. They are also a great tool for business providing internet connectivity. Manufacturers like Motorola, Nokia, Sony, LG, Samsung etc are all putting technology in over drive to give super hi-tech mobile phones.
