The real question here is why would you need to or want to hack a SIM card? Is there ever a reason to hack or break into a SIM card? SIM stands for subscriber identity module. In most cases, smartphones and other hand held electronic devices have a SIM card. These cards are little components that fit inside the device, usually behind the battery and it stores information about the user, downloads (music, movies, pictures, e-books, etc.), and other pertinent data that can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Their size varies but they are usually smaller than your finger print. SIM cards are in just about any smart device, e.g. Cable boxes, laptop and tablet computers, and personal digital assistants. At times, when we damage our phones or we need or wish to upgrade our service, cell phone service providers will use the SIM card to transfer information from one device to the other. Cell phone service providers and technicians have the equipment and knowledge it takes to get our smart devices working again. In some unfortunate cases, people may choose to exploit this information for sullied purposes. In other words, with the right equipment and know how, one can hack a SIM card and make a device do just about anything it’s capable of doing, including adding free minutes. On the other hand, that equipment and know how should not be abused in such a manner because it can be considered illegal and constitutes a breach in trust.
