To change your status on MSN, click on the arrow next to your display name. This will bring up a list of status options such as 'busy', 'online', 'away', 'in a call', 'be right back', etc.
All you need to do is select the status that applies to you by clicking on it. Once you have done that, your status should appear next to your display name in brackets, and all the people on your contacts list will be able to see your status.
If you wish to change your status again, then all you need to do is simply clickon one of the other status options and your status will be changed again.
Also, if you click on the arrow next to your display name and scroll down and click on 'Personal Settings', you can choose to have your status displayd as 'Away' when you are inactive for a certain amount of time. You can also display that you are 'busy' and block alerts when you are running another program.
