Computers are critical for everyday life, although I agree that they might seem more critical to certain people more than others.
It's actually quite difficult to think of a process that doesn't rely on computers these days: From managing bus routes through to ensuring food gets delivered to your local supermarket, if you take computers out of the equation, everything would come crashing down.
Even people who managed just fine only a decade ago without a personal computer, are now never more than a few feet away from their smartphone or tablet.
In many ways, the better question would be "What parts of society would come crashing down if it weren't for computers?"
The military, the education system, traffic lights... These are just a few examples of social structures we are heavily dependant on, and that in turn are heavily dependant on computers.
In other words... Long live the machines!
