Since its launch in October 2010, the online image-sharing and social network site Instagram has amassed two hundred million users, who exchange and share over 50 million photos and videos each month. If you want to become one of those users, it's simple enough!
Once downloaded, fill out your profile (you can choose between a personal profile or one used for business purposes). You can then begin to amass followers, and people to follow, through your Facebook contacts or your email contacts stored on your phone.
You can also follow accounts that inspire or interest you. For example, if you are interested in your home town, follow other users or bloggers who enjoy taking pictures of that town.
Don't Just Follow - Take Some Photos Yourself!
Take as many as you can think of per subject, you’ll want to choose from multiple shots to post the best possible picture of your subject.
Once you've decided on the best picture, the creative process needn't end there. Instagram's signature feature is its photo sharing app which allows users to assign filters to photos with the photos similar in size and appearance to old-fashioned Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid pictures. Additional filtering can be used to make it really look as if a picture taken on an iPhone in 2014 looks as if it were taken in 1964! You can then also caption your photo.
Instagramers can synchronize their photo sharing to other social networks, and so photos can be posted directly to Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Flickr and other such applications. Films can also be shared.
