In my daily life, I can barely think of a moment that doesn't involve using a device which contains some form of basic computer, or a product that was manufactured, marketed or distributed with the aid of computers.

The Use of Computers in My Daily Life
I'm normally woken at 07:00 by the alarm clock on my phone. Once I'm awake, I'll then use my phone to check for messages, and take a look at my social network accounts.

The heating will have come on a good hour or so before I wake up - all thanks to the computer timer system which I set up. (I'm very grateful for this during a cold, British winter!)

Once I've showered, I'll fetch a glass of orange juice from the fridge. Mine might be primitive, but it still uses a computer to monitor its internal temperature, and to switch on the refrigeration unit when things get too warm.

I'll walk to work but, while doing so, I'll use my phone to play a selection of mp3s to get me set up for the day.

Once I arrive at work, I spend all day using a computer, as many people do these days. If I arrive before anybody else, I'll also have to turn off the alarm system, which is again computer-controlled.

If I have an appointment to meet somebody at a location that I've never been to before, then I'll look up where I need to go on Google Maps.

To do this, I'll be using my computer to connect to Google's computer, via a series of intermediary computers, and retrieving mapping data to help me find my way. I could even use GPS-mapping on my smartphone if I felt I needed to.

However, once a week, I might go to my local pub to take part in the pub quiz - which is one event at which the use of computers/smartphones is strictly prohibited!
