You should know the carrier or service provider of the number to send the text. Every service provider has a unique code and it is compulsory to make a call or send a text message. The phone number can be the same but service provider number will always be unique.

Tracfone is its own service provider. The user purchases minutes by getting a phone card from the store and then adds them to the phone. I don't think know if they have texting capabilities though.

TracPhone is its own service provider. That is the brand name just like T-Mobile or Sprint. I don't know if TracPhone users have texting capabilities though. The user purchases prepaid minutes from a store and then applies them to the phone.
