When you forward a message its courteous to precede the message with RT: Or Retweet: This makes it clear that you are not trying to take credit for the messages contents.

RT stands for ReTweet or more simplified a Repeat.  It is like forwarding, but especially for Twitters instead of emails. It is used to share some thing you like with people following you except the actual person.

RT Means ReTweet - when you repeat someone else's tweet because you want to share it with your followers. You put RT at the start of your tweet to signify this.

Re-Tweet, like if someone says: RT: Jonas Brothers rock! Then they want you to re-tweet that so it can maybe be like a Trending Topic?

It comes from twitter (which can link to Facebook).  It means re-tweet, or in other words, use another person's quote (tweet) maybe because you like it.
