The firm is owned by Sprint Nextel - a telecommunications company with its Headquarters in Kansas. The Sprint network is the third largest wireless telecommunications network in the USA. Boost Mobile has its headquarters in California.
Where did the company come from?
It was founded in 2000 in Australia by Peter Adderton. Along with Kirt McMaster and Craig Cooper, he took the concept to the USA the following year. They entered in to a venture with Nextel to launch and market the brand.
Who are the customers?
The brand has always been targeted at teenagers and people in their twenties. Advertising has also suggested links to action sports and urban music. The campaigns in the USA hav included rappers such as Kanye West, Ludacris and The Game. The firm has also sponsored many high-profile events which fit with its brand such as skateboarding, surfing, motocross and mixed martial arts tournaments.
Where you at?
The slogan "Where you at?" was used the by company in around 2007. It was a reference to a feature on it's phones which allowed them to be used like Walkie-Talkies.
The latest idea:
Boost Mobile's latest idea is Shrinkage. It is being sold as a reward to loyal customers. The idea is that on the $50 monthly unlimited tariff, the longer you stay the less you pay.
