A router is a device which is usually used in networks, most commonly in Local Area and Wide Area networks. The routers determine the best path for transmitting the packets of data sent through a network. It then forwards the data packets. They are located at the place where two or more networks connect; this place is called as a gateway. So the routers located at the connection of the network would communicate with each other in order to form the best path for the data. Routers use protocols like ICMP (Internet control Message Protocol) for the purpose of communication and formation of the path.
