Good question! I often wonder this myself. I have to young teens that live next door and I never see them out ever. Even in Summer. Their parents have come over and went swimming and I asked them where their kids were? Playing video games. Maybe I'm just old but I was always outside playing baseball or doing something outside. I guess in the electronic age, the kids just want to play video games instead of playing outside. I guess it's an addiction with kids nowadays! Not all, but most. They should be enjoying the great outdoors!

i was on the fringe of the electronics age. and well. in the 90's and early 00's when i was a kid. i was always outside playing and running around with the neighbourhood kids. i didn't get my first computer until i was 16 (late 2006), i didn't grow up with any video games (i bought a gamecube when i was 15 but i rarely ever used it lol)

I think that it's was a concept that is fairly novel at first but now it's like that's what developers focus on too much and as a result of the now mass populous purchasing more and more consoles many  often yearn to play with other gamers or people who are in contact with them.

This increases more demand in online gameplay as they might feel the gameplay is more exciting due to the surge of other human players instead of  AI

Well, if you think about it.. What's not to love about online games?

You get transported to a world very different from your own, often with powers and capabilities you could only dream of, and you still get to meet new people and go on adventures, just like in the real world.

What's more, it's less physical effort and sometimes cheaper too.

Not that I advocate staying indoors all day and playing video games. I think a healthy balance is the way to go.

The only thing I find a little strange is the lack of games on the market that truly make use of all the technology available to create a fully-immersive experience centred around something other than killing other people.

Sure, there are games out there that aren't about that... But I can't think of one that has graphics and landscapes that really blow your midn away.

For example, here's a vide of the "Most Beautiful Scenery in Gaming" that I found on YouTube:

Out of the 4, the only unarmed character is the lady in Mirror's Edge, and she spends most of the games jumping off rooftops to avoid people who are trying to shoot her.

What I'm looking forward to is a fully-immersive virtual reality game that takes you to a world that helps you relax, rather than increases your stress levels.

Something like Epc Zen Garden for iOS, but with more of a storyline or purpose...

Or maybe there's something like that already out there, and I just don't know about it?

Either way, when you look at how exciting and well crafted games look these days, coupled with the idea that online gaming allows users to socialize with friends and new people across the globe... Then you can kind of see why online games are so appealing.
