In order to find out what a good Facebook click through rate (or CTR) was, a company known as Wolfgang conducted a study and found that the ideal rate depended on what sort of campaign was undertaken.

The study looked at more than 3 million users between 2013 and 2014 and found that most display ads has a click through rate of about 0.04%, while newsfeed ads had click through rates of 2.09%.

This means that if you are running a display ad campaign and you are getting less than a 0.04% CTR, you aren’t doing all that well. The same goes for a CTR below 2.09% on a newsfeed ad.

Anything above these numbers indicates that you are doing better than the Average Joe, and so this is where you should be aiming.

However, if you ask me, the secret to good click through rate is simple: know your audience, be entertaining, and make the most of visuals and posts that create interest and curiosity. Follow this approach, and your CTR should improve.
