Since its launch in October 2010, Instagram has picked up over a hundred million users who signed up to exchange messages and share photos and videos. 

Instagram most famous features are the filters with which users can significantly alter the colours and textures of a picture, making them look similar to old-style Kodak Instamatic pictures. Additional filtering can be used to make it really look as if a picture taken on an iPhone in 2014 looks as if it were taken with a Kodak in 1964. This has, unfairly or otherwise, led Instagram users to be labelled as part of the 'hipster' crowd.

In 2013, Instagram brought out a desktop facility, but the iPhone app continues to be preferred environment for users to interact.
