Network layer is the layer in the OSI model of networking that responds to the requests from transport layer. The aim of network layer is the packet delivery from source to destination including any routing through intermediate hosts. On the other hand, the link layer is responsible for hop to hope frame delivery. This delivery takes place on the same link. The function of network layer is to provide the procedural means of transferring variable length data sequences from end to end. In this way network layers is responsible for the transmission of information.
