- DRAM failure
If you are getting a DRAM code when attempting to shut down the computer, it points towards a problem with the system memory or the motherboard itself. It is advised that you treat DRAM failure as a memory failure.
- How to Test for Memory Failure
- Firstly, shut down your computer and unplug any cables, follow this by removing the outer cover.
- Locate the memory, also known as RAM, and remove this from the computer.
- With a can of compressed air (available from most computer shops and electronic stores), clean the area in and surrounding the memory slots. Carefully reinsert the RAM into the slots, ensuring it is put back in correctly.
- Plug the cables back into the computer, however leave the cover off as you are only testing to see if the problem is fixed.
- When restarted if the problem is still present, again turn off the computer and swap the RAM over into different slots, then test once more.
- If the problem persists remove all but one memory stick and repeat this process until you find a fault.
- If the problem continues after testing every slot, install new RAM into the computer.
- Once this has been done any more errors that continue to be active point towards a problem with your motherboard, and you are advised to seek professional assistance from a qualified technician.
