There is no explicit age restriction for using Twitter, and anyone of any age can sign up to the social media service.

However, Twitter does require users to enter into a legal agreement when they sign up - and under-18s are forbidden from entering contractual agreements until the age of 18 without the expressed permission of a parent or guardian.

How old do you have to be to use Twitter?
Twitter likes to portray itself as an all-inclusive, global application that helps connect the entire world. As such, I'm sure the company's executives are keen to keep Twitter appearing accessible and open to all.

As a result, and whilst some social media applications insist that their users meet an age requirement, Twitter doesn't directly impose such criteria.

However, if you have a look at the Twitter terms & conditions page, you'll see that the company requires you to submit to the controlling law and jurisdiction of the State of California (where Twitter is based).

It could therefore be argued that a minor wouldn't be able to enter into such an agreement without the permission of a parent or legal guardian.
