I think it is as good as can be expected online. Although I'll admit it does become easier to talk trash online rather than in person. I try my best to not be offensive, but sometimes some of my comments, questions, and answers may offend some. The one downside to being online is not being able to convey what is truly a joke, and what may be mistaken for seriousness.
I agree with Yarnlady...because of the youngsters. If anyone knows of a good site where I can converse with only adults who do not constantly refer to sex and these adults actually have a brain and like to discuss ideas, concepts, theories and things, please advise!!
As it's a moderated site, there are no flame wars, but the level of questions is largely poor, which is perhaps a different matter from netiquette as such.
Considering the user base here I will say overall netiquette(or whatever) is OK to bear with in comparison to other such big sites on the worldwide web.
I believe that this site was originally created for the teens and tweeners. The way it is monitored and administered shows that it is not a place where you can as you say "discuss ideas, concepts, theories and things." If it were meant for serious minded folks, we would not allow ourselves to be subjected to this type of "Big Brother" overseering. We should be insulted being treated as if we we back in primary school. I feel when I answer a question properly, I get a gold star and if I should say something a little off I get a letter of disapproval which I should take home to Mommy. If you are looking for that place where you can "discuss ideas, concepts, theories and things," I suggest a group therapy session given at a local Hospice facility." I imagine that is a place where seriousness reigns supreme and the if the discussions become too adversarial, don't be perturbed your opponent may be gone within the hour.
