Facebook is an online social networking site that allows its users to reconnect with long lost friends and relatives, and keep in touch with each other from whatever point in the world that they happen to be in.
A free to use site, Facebook creates its profit by selling advertising space to other major companies. It is able to do this due to the massive amount of users that log on every day, all of which are dedicated and addicted to the facilities that Facebook can offer its fans.
Created in February 2004 by students Chris Hughes, Eduardo Saverin, Mark Zuckerberg and Dustin Moskovitz, the site was only intended for the pupils of Harvard, but grew in popularity expanding to other colleges, and then on to high school students and finally to anyone over the age of 13, a rule that has been broken time and time again by users, with over 7.5 million under age children using the site.

If you have not yet joined the website, and wish to do so, becoming a member is easily done; by providing a little information about yourself, such as your name (which will allow other users to find you and add you as their friend), your email address and a desired password.
Once this is done, you can go about adding a profile picture of yourself, allowing people to see if you are the person they remember, and updating statuses.
