I just got off of the phone with my cousin as he was calling with Magic Jack. It was great, and yes he did pay the $40 for the USB device and it is just $19.95 a year from here on out. He mentioned that as he was setting things up, there was the option to pay in advance for a 5 year period. If you consider this option do the math first and make sure it saves you money. At the very least, if you take the 5 year option prepaid you rate is locked in in the event the rates go up.

This is true 39.00 fro the magic jack  ---plug it into computer--then telephone . I have had mine for over a year --- you get your own telephone number--- but you have to have the computer on for it to work. You have to be on the internet too. You can get it wall mart too.

I have one, it works ok. If you don't mind many dropped calls and poor quality, it's worth the $40 investment and $20/year. I would not buy it again if I knew about the issues upfront.

There is no such device like that which could get you free calls over your computer. Its more likely a scam. However, there are cheap VOIP services that can get you cheap phone calls through your PC. For example net2phone is one such software.

magicJack charges $39.95 for the device plus access to a V.O.I.P. network where there is no additional charge for calls for a year. The current cost for the second year's worth of phone calls is $19.95.
I just got one, and it works from my home computer, which has DSL service. I tried to connect while on the road in a hotel, which is why I really wanted it. But two necessary ports were blocked and, after spending over ½ hour with tech support, we concluded that it would not work. If you have broadband and are confident that you can configure your firewall ports, including ports on the cable or DSL modem's built-in firewall, magicJack should work. But if you travel and use whatever hotel broadband service is available, you might not have great success.
