Hai

first you can check your taskbar is lock or not.that is you place you mouse point on the taskbar middle.right click and see lock the taskbar.if it is check right mark you cannot drag the taskbar.yocan uncheck that and move the task bar anywhere in your computer and lock it also same as unlock.thankyobye.

Do not click at the edge of the task bar, just place the mouse arrow in the centre of the task bar and then drag it to the place you want it to be. I hope it will work because the bar increases or decreases its size only when you start dragging from the bar edge.

Thank you but this still didn't work for me. By trial and error though I found that I could fix it by going into my monitor settings and reducing the image size right down then moved the taskbar, quickly locked it in place (!0 then went back in and brought my image size back up again. This might be something for others who have had this problem to try also. I don't know why it worked and I still have no idea why it decided to "migrate" in the first place.

A friend of mine just had this problem too. He tried all the suggestions here, but none worked. After thinking about what he had been doing just before the taskbar got moved, he remembered he had been viewing a powerpoint presentation that a friend had sent. It was the kind you can only play, not edit. So he opened it up again and played it, and while it was playing he found he could move the taskbar. ??!!! So he moved it to the bottom and locked it there before the powerpoint finished playing. It stayed there and that's where he's left it.

Must be some kind of Microsoft bug. Don't know why, but it worked. That's all that matters.

Thanks for those suggestions. I expanded mine, then found it would move to either side and the bottom, so anywhere on the outer edge of the screen. Got it back to the bottom and locked it. Mine moved itself to the top when Google Chrome TOOK OVER from Windows without authorisation. I believe in competition but what a cheek!

I just had this problem and what worked for me was making sure the "lock the taskbar" was unchecked and then just in the area near the start button (but not on the start button) left click, hold, and then drag.
This will work!

My Vista toolbar was also stuck on the top of the screen and I was not able to drag back to the bottom until I first stretched it higher.  The lock toolbar property made no difference--just needed to make some "empty space" on the toolbar to drag it.

The actual way to fix the problem in question is to right click on an empty part of the taskbar. Select "properties", then scroll down to the tab that says "taskbar location on the screen", and select "bottom". Mine sometimes gets changed courtesy of my three year old.

None of these solutions worked for me. But I tried auto-hiding the task bar   and then turned auto-hide off again. Whoa! The task bar returned in its place and could be moved again.

I found that by expanding the size of my stuck taskbar to two rows it would move. Odd
