Actually, Bill Lear (of Lear Jet fame) could be considered the founder of Motorola.  He invented the first practical car radio in the late 1920's, calling it the "Motorola".  He sold the name and patents to Galvin Manufacturing Company and Paul and Joseph Galvin changed the name of their company to Motorola in 1930.
