Is there a separate section for color and black ink?, then make sure the black ink is not in the colour slot instead. Some times you have to push or make sure it is clipped in correctly, other wise the printer won't pick it up. If you have done all this, just to make sure the ink pad is not empty or check that you have peeled the plastic seal from off the front of the cartridge, it could be the reason why the error has come up.
