Losing things is not something that people enjoy doing, but occasionally it does happen: Even to the best of us. If you have lost your DVD decoder for Windows XP Home Edition, then you do not want to head to any old website to solve your problem. You need to look into the issue thoroughly to avoid damaging your computer.

Getting a free download of the relevant video codecs is unfortunately not very straightforward. Your best option may be to head to the Windows website and visit the help sections that you can access at the bottom of the main page.

If you have just lost it and still have all the details of your original software, you may be able to get more help if you contact the Windows helpline and explain the situation. They may be able to be more help to you if they know the full details of your situation.

However, be warned! There are several methods of download that you should really avoid at all costs. One of these is an illegal download such as using a torrent downloader as these are not only illegal as mentioned, you also run the risks of downloading serious viruses onto your laptop or desktop computer. Using any website such as these ones come with a lot of warning labels, so it is best to stay away from these and stick to official methods that are more trusted.

There is also the option of downloading a different program such as VLC that can easily work just as well as your previous software. Just research the different options that are available to you.

THe only site that seems to offer this has a lot of warnings attached. It might be better to go to the Windows site, get all the information you can and explore the help sections at the bottom of the page too. It doesn't look as if getting a free download is very straightforward.
