Neopets and Smallworlds are games which are similar to Club penguin but do not require a membership.
Neopets was created in 1997 and launched in 1999 and is a virtual pet website. Players create virtual pets to live in the virtual world of Neopia. They can create up to four pets and take care of them buying them food, toys and clothes using the in-game currency Neopoints.
Users can interact with each other using the in game message board system called Neoboards, as well as Neomail, and guilds (which are collections of friends who unite under a single banner as a named group).
Smallworlds is a virtual world which was developed by Outsmart who are based in Auckland, New Zealand. It has over three million users and is commonly known as "SW”. There is no need to download or install any software as the game is simply run in a web browser.
In the game the player creates an avatar and has his own space to decorate and add things to make his space unique from others, spaces which players have created include hospital, clubs and hotels.
Players interact by playing mini-games such as online pool, checkers, chess and mini golf and they can also compete in weekly challenges consisting of easy tasks within Smallworlds.
