My Dell AIO 962 symptoms were the same. I could print but not scan from the My Computer, Dell Photo AIO Printer 962, Scanner and Camera Wizard (or paint, etc.). I could scan from the Start, All Programs, Dell Photo AIO Printer 962, All-in-One Center application. My printer was connected via USB.Rumor has it there is a Microsoft patch for the Dell AIO 962 printer which if applied corrupts the printer drivers (never trust MS). I called the DELL hotline and after two days of being passed from one tech support to another, I got RJ; apparently the only one who actually knows the secret fix. Here's what my $60.00 got me.Do the following with the printer connected and turned on and a document in the scanner..0. Backup your system and or set a restore point.1. Go to C:\WINDOWS\twain_32\2. Rename wiatwain.ds to something like wiatwain.dsw so the system can't find the file.3. Try to scan something (it will fail).4. Rename the file back to the original name wiatwain.ds5. Go to Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager button.6. Locate the Imaging devices entry and click on the + sign.7. Locate the Dell Photo AIO Printer 962 entry in the list.8. Right click and uninstall the Dell Photo AIO Printer 962.9. Your system should find the printer automatically, think it is a new device, and reinstall it correctly.At this point my printer started scanning just fine from the Start, All Programs, Dell Photo AIO Printer 962, All-in-One Center application, and paint, and...
