I did know that! I keep one in our tornado hide out. Also many police or sheriff departments will take your old phones to give to people who have suffered, or suspect have suffered, domestic abuse so that if it happens again they can call for help. We have donated several old phones.
Yes, last night we got a knock on the door from a police officer asking if anyone called 911 from this house hold. We all checked our phones thinking maybe we butt dialed but none of our phones did. He said "it came from an out of service phone." We gave Jr an ancient phone to play with, no way to charge the battery, it doesn't even have a keyboard! Remember the dinosaur phones that has numbers only!?! Yep Jr dialed 911!!!
