Is Ello stupid?

I suppose it depends what you want from a social media site (though the name, I grant you, is a bit stupid).

Ello pitches itself as the "anti-facebook", so if you are becoming disillusioned with Facebook- as a lot of people claim to be, although it's popularity does not seem to be dwindling- then you may quite like ello.

It's manifesto is as follows:

Personally I find this pretty appealing. Facebook seemed to start out as a social enterprise, but is increasingly becoming a commercial one. Everyone is tired of those ads that pop up in their news feed, right? So, in theory- I don't think ello is stupid, it looks great.

However.

Do we really need another social media networking site? As much as Facebook grates on me at times, it's familiar, everyone I know is on it, I know what to expect from it.

And if we are to stop using sites because of the advertising, I'm not sure we'd be left with an awful lot!

I guess it's personal preference... And mine is that, although it looks and sounds great, I'm not sure I'll bother.
