Here's a few basics covering what you need to know about Instagram:
Launched in October 2010, the online image-sharing and social network site Instagram has amassed over a hundred million users, simply by offering the chance for users to post, exchange and share photos and videos. The company was bought by Facebook in April 2012.
How to use Instagram
Instagram is available on iOS and Android devices. Once installed, and having taken a few pictures, Instagramers can synchronize their photo sharing to other social networks, editing and posting directly to Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Flickr, Foursquare and other such applications. Users can also share films with each other.Instagram's signature feature is its photo sharing app which allows users to assign filters to photos with the photos similar in size and appearance to old-fashioned Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid pictures; the above picture is an Instagram image. Photos can be 'aged' to make them look as if they were taken in the 1960s or 1970s, or if you've taken a selfie, you can give yourself a suntan!
Are Instagram Pictures Really All That Good?
The quality of the image, according to one critic, can "just hit a certain threshold of quality where the images became visually appealing." Compared to professional Adobe plug-ins and Photoshop tools, "Instagram photos have a decent quality."
Instagram pictures are not as good in terms of quality or resolution, duh, but can produce interesting images. You'd be lucky to impress a seasoned art or photography critic with your Instagram pictures, but if a picture pleases you and your friends, maybe that's good enough.
